PD of One: Professional Development is Personal

Teaching high school mathematics and thinking about how we can keep getting better.

Changing to block scheduling is huge.

The discussion phase is over, the public forums complete, the changeover will be in place to start the new year in September.

What does the mathematics classroom look like in blocks?

There are different ways to run a lesson, but my experience leading the Hasting Mathematics Department suggests that we start cautiously and then experiment until we have a couple of lesson planning ‘templates.’

Before we dig in to the different modalities of possible lessons, keep in mind that everyone will approach the move to block periods differently and that these same people will change their approach to lesson-planning over time!
