PD of One: Professional Development is Personal

Teaching high school mathematics and thinking about how we can keep getting better.

Who am I to talk?

I did my doctoral research on how a small group of teachers create informal learning opportunities for each other throughout the year. I’ve always been fascinated by how much we learn from each other. My regular job is teaching high school mathematics, which I’ve done for 25 years. I also serve as department chair, run the odd workshop, and facilitate a group of area math chairs and directors.

This blog is simply for fun. I plan on spending a year writing up and sharing stories about teaching mathematics. There isn’t a ton of great PD for high school mathematics, because we teach so many different kinds of mathematics by content, and do so with diverse populations and school structures. I think the solution is that we need to run our own professional development and I’ll keep posting ideas to try until I run out!

Happy teaching everyone.
