PD of One: Professional Development is Personal

Teaching high school mathematics and thinking about how we can keep getting better.

Review: AP Calculus AB, digital review project

Abstract: students, individually or in group, generate a review of one topic, within google docs.  Class and teacher critique each page as part of reviewing for tests.

Just want the generic google doc? Click here.

How I use it:

  • Students each choose a topic (sometimes I help choose, or assign one).
  • Each topic needs four perspectives: algebraic; numerical; graphical; and narrative.
  • Each topic needs practice problems links to additional resources.
  • I use class time to get started (so everyone gets a chance to share ideas …
  • … and then assign it for HW (with a short turnaround time)
  • I lead a review session with several pages a day (so that I can add in anything the student misses)

Grading

  • Did the student include what I assigned? 6 things, 3 points each, for a total of 18 points.
  • Did the student keep it to two pages? 2 points.
  • Is the page readable, clear, and concise? 3 points.
  • Finally, do I have to clean it up or did the student manage the name and styles correctly? 2 points.

25 points total
